Beer Bottleing Day
We got a beer making kit (from Mr. Beer) for the holidays and we set up the brewing keg for the first run. The Kit we got was complete and the directions were easy to follow. It took us about a 1/2 hour to set up and put the keg to brewing our first batch.
I bottled our first batch of beer today. It takes 7 to 14
days for the first fermentation to run its cycle and for the beer to be ready to
bottle. It looked and tasted like flat beer and that was a good sign. To get
the beer carbonated it has to be bottled.
After the bottles are cleaned and sanitized, granulated
sugar is put in the bottles. About 2 ½ teaspoons for a liter. The sugar lets
the yeast become active again and that produces the carbonation. Another 10 to
14 days in a dark space is required to carbonate the beer. The plastic bottles that came with the kit
will get hard to the squeeze as co2 builds up. When that happens it is ready to
drink. The beer can and should be aged in the refrigerator for a few weeks more, and this
is supposed to make it better yet. Time will tell.We will try one and age the rest.
It is again hurry up and wait time. 8-)
