More Tips for Canvas Dodgers & Bimini's
I just read an article in Sail Magazine on dodgers and
bimini care. To add to the previous
blog on the same subject, this article brought some things I did not
mention.
This article said that a Dark Canvas Color lasts longer than
light colors, so if you are selecting a color, a dark color not gray ( what we
have…8-(… ) may deteriorate slower. Black zippers last longer than white
zippers according to that article. They also said silicon lubricant may also
shorten the life of zippers. They recommended lubricating both zippers and
snaps every 6 mo. And they suggested EZ Snap and Lubricant. We use this also
and it works great.
Cleaning and waxing the frame the canvas is on also helps
make the canvas last longer. Collinte Metal Wax, Flitz and iosso metal polish
were suggested. We use Flitz and it works well for us.
Water proofing the canvas is a good idea, and the canvas
needs to be clean and dry before you put the waterproofing on. 303 Fabric Guard
will wash off in the rain if the canvas was not clean when you put it on.
Also, 303 needs a warm day for application…the heat activates the product.
Keeping the canvas clean is the most important thing on getting you canvas to last longer.
