Anchoring Tip
Most of the smaller anchors you can buy today are good. Some are better than others and you often get
what you pay for. One tip for any anchor you use is to keep it cleaned off.
When you pull your anchor up, you may bring up a lot of
bottom stuck to the anchor. Many anchors do not let the bottom muck slide off
when you bring it up. It may take a little effort to get this off and when you
bring it up is when you need to get the worst of it off. If it dries on the
anchor it can harden like concrete.
An anchor with old bottom mud and stuff on it will not dig
in as well the next time you try to use it. It only takes a few minutes to
clean it when it comes up and you know it will be ready for its next use.
It will also keep bottom dirt and smell off the boat. Smell can be a big deal. A smelly bow anchor can make the whole boat
stink as soon as you start moving. Yes…this is a voice of experience on this
one. *-)
No matter which anchor you buy, like a Sarca Excel Anchor,
or a Spade Anchor, or a Delta Anchor, or even a cheap fisherman type anchor, it
will work better when it is clean.
