Anchor Chain Holding Plate You Can Make
A chain holding plate on the stem of the boat helps both
when you anchor and when you pull the Anchor up. If your boat does not have one
it is a nice addition if you go on the hook a lot. A simple chain holding plate
is a notched plate that you drop a chain link into so it is held fast.
The illustration below is from Sail Magazine and this one is
simple and functional and can be easily made by do it your self-er’s.
When you are pulling in your anchor, you can drop the chain
in the plate to take a rest as you pull it in. If you pull chain in as the boat
bow goes down and catch the chain when the bow goes up the boat will almost
pull the chain in for you. It will decrease the amount of work you have to do.
You still need to tie off the chain with a line to a cleat
after the anchor is set just in case the chain pops out of the notch in a bad
swell.
