Smart Phones and Tablets and Boating.
There are a number of Apps you can get for your Smart Phone
and Tablets that you can use for your boating. They should not be used to take
the place of good navigation instruments on your boat, but they could
complement them nicely. Many navigation systems like some from Raymarine (The C and E Series) can
link to your smart phone and Apple iOS and Android devices.
You can get Marine Imray Charts with your iPhone or
iPad. Marine & Lakes charts from Navionics can be gotten by
Android,iPhone &iPad. Weather Apps,
Man Over Board Apps, Course tracking Apps, and many others are available: some
free, some cheap, and some are costly.
It is unexpected to think people will not try to use some of
these Apps as a primary Navigation devices. They are handy to have, many work
very well, but they should be back up devises. They do open a new way of
planning adventures and following your adventures on the high seas.
